Description
The Amplatzer Septal Occluder, CE Marked since 1998, is intended for patients with an ASD in the secundum position or patients who have undergone a fenestrated Fontan procedure and who now require closure of the fenestration.
The Amplatzer Septal Occluder has a wide connecting waist that centers the device and fills the ASD.
This occluder—offering the widest range of ASD sizes—can treat defects from 3 mm to 38 mm.
Sizing and Device Selection
Defect sizing should be carried out using stop-flow measurements with a sizing balloon. Once the diameter of the defect has been determined, select an occlusion device equal to or (if the identical size is not available) one size larger than the defect.
Do not select a device size larger than 1.5 times the echocardiograph-derived ASD diameter prior to balloon sizing.
